Hello SHIH Readers
In this Update we share news about: exciting new programs offered by Abbotsford at the Glebe Centre, our local community program and service provider; new information about how primary care is being offered; and an opportunity to influence next stage housing in Village Canada.
Community Wellness Hubs
Abbotsford at The Glebe Centre is introducing their Community Wellness Hubs that will bring accessible programs and opportunities for social connection directly into local neighbourhoods (Old Ottawa East, Old Ottawa South, and Hunt Club).Five programs will be offered to those over 55 and all adults with disabilities:
art classes;
line dancing;
urban pole walking;
technology workshops; and
a speaker series focused on healthy aging and aging at home.
Each program will allow time for participants to socialize and connect and will run as a six-week program block. There will be a cost for the first four programs; since Urban Pole walking is being delivered in partnership with Urban Strides, it will be the most expensive cost at $60. There are a limited number of subsidies for eligible seniors to offset the cost of program fees. The speaker series will be delivered for free.
The specific dates, location, and registration details for each program will be promoted approximately six weeks before it begins.
This poster outlines each program that will be offered and this link takes you to the poster that outlines the details of the Urban Pole Walking program that begins on September 22.
Primary Care offered in our Community
As a reminder, if you don’t have primary care be sure to register on Health Care Connect (HCC) by either using this link or phone 1.800.445.1822. Ontario Health is using HCC to attach those without primary care to primary care providers.
We are aware that Centretown and South-East Ottawa Community Health Centres (CHC) are using HCC to attach new clients.
As well, the walk-in clinic at the South-East Ottawa (CHC) at 1355 Bank Street, Suite 600 welcomes anyone from the city who does not have a primary care provider (a family doctor or nurse practitioner).
Centretown CHC also has a walk-in clinic however they focus on target groups.
